Description

Ekspedisi Carstensz 1936 merupakan ekspedisi sejarah yang sangat
penting di Papua, Indonesia. Ekspedisi ini dilakukan oleh tokoh-tokoh
penting pada masa itu diantaranya Jean Jacques Dozy, Anton Colijn, dan
Frits Wissel. Sejarah ekspedisi ilmiah ini sayangnya belum terdokumentasi
dengan baik secara visual, oleh karena itu, penelitian ini akan dilakukan
dengan mengumpulkan data-data untuk merekonstruksi visual Ekspedisi
Carstensz 1936 dengan pendekatan seni rupa pembuatan mini diorama.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk merekonstruksi visual Ekspedisi
Carstensz 1936 dengan membuat maket diorama peristiwa Ekspedisi
Carstensz 1936. Rangkaian penelitian ini mengumpulkan studi literatur
sejarah, pengumpulan arsip foto, data antropologis, serta dalam eksekusi
praktiknya menggunakan teknik modelling sculpture. Hasil penelitian ini
merupakan satu buah maket skala 1:4 yang merepresentasikan kembali
suasana ekspedisi Carstensz pada salah satu dokumentasi foto yang ada.
Kesimpulannya bahwa sebuah sejarah dapat direkonstruksi melalui
pendekatan seni yang menjadikan media edukatif untuk menghidupkan
kembali suasana suatu peristiwa yang kurang terdokumentasi dengan baik
secara visual.

The Carstensz Expedition 1936 is a very important historical expedition in
Papua, Indonesia. This expedition was carried out by important figures from
the Netherlands at that time, including Jean Jacques Dozy, Anton Colijn, and
Frits Wissel. The history of this scientific expedition is unfortunately not well
documented, therefore, this research will be conducted by collecting data to
visually reconstruct the Carstensz Expedition 1936 by making a diorama
mockup of the expedition. The series of this research collected historical
literature studies, photo archive collection, anthropological data, and in its
practical execution using modelling sculpture technique. The result of this
research is a 1:4 scale mockup that re-represents the atmosphere of the
Carstensz expedition in one of the existing photo documentation. The
conclusion is that history can be reconstructed through an art approach that
makes educational media to revive the atmosphere of an event that is less well
visually documented.
