- Penelitian ini mengkaji praktik performativitas gender melalui fesyen androgini di kalangan mahasiswa Fakultas Seni Rupa dan Desain Institut Teknologi Bandung (FSRD ITB). Fesyen androgini dipahami sebagai medium representasi identitas gender non-biner yang mencerminkan ketidakterikatkan pada norma-norma gender biner konvensional. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis bagaimana mahasiswa mempraktikkan fesyen androgini sebagai bentuk Tindakan performative serta mengidentifikasi pengaruh lingkungan sosial dan budaya kampus terhadap ekspresi gender tersebut. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi visual terhadap tiga informan yang secara konsisten mengadopsi gaya berpakaian androgini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekspresi gender melalui fesyen androgini merupakan bantuk konstruksi sosial yang diproduksi secara berulang melalui Tindakan, penampilan, dan negosiasi dalam ruang sosial. Lingkungan FSRD ITB yang inklusif dan terbuka terhadap keragaman ekspresi artistic memberikan ruang aman bagi praktik performative tersebut, meskipun para pelaku tetap menghadapi tantangan dari norma sosial yang hegemonik di luar kampus.
- This study examines the practice of gender performativity through androgynous fashion among students of the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bandung Institute of Technology (FSRD ITB). Androgynous fashion is understood as a medium for representing non-binary gender identities, reflecting a departure from conventional binary gender norms. The primary objective of this research is to analyze how students utilize androgynous fashion as a form of performative action and to identify the influence of campus social and cultural environments on gender expression. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and visual documentation involving three informants who consistently adopt androgynous styles in their daily lives. The findings reveal that gender expression through androgynous fashion constitutes a social construction that is continuously produced through repetitive actions, visual presentation, and negotiation within social spaces. The inclusive and open environment at FSRD ITB fosters a safe space for such performative practices, although the individuals involved still face challenges posed by hegemonic social norms beyond the academic setting.
