Di era modern, praktik perjodohan paksa seharusnya tidak lagi diberlakukan, khususnya dalam institusi pernikahan yang menekankan hak maupun pendapat pribadi dalam memilih. Tradisi Mappasiala sebuah bentuk perjodohan paksa yang masih ditemukan di wilayah Sulawesi menjadi fokus dalam karya ini, yang berangkat dari pengalaman personal penulis melalui kisah sang ibu yang menolak perjodohan dan memilih menentukan pasangannya sendiri, tindakan yang dalam budaya Bugis dianggap sebagai pelanggaran terhadap nilai siri’. Melalui karya bertajuk “Potret Sepasang Mempelai: Reinterpretasi Tradisi Mappasiala dalam karya Mixed Media Gaya kubistik”, penulis menghadirkan jumlah total delapan karya mix media dengan gaya kubistik yang mampu membentuk ruang dialog reflektif akan pentingnya kesadaran ruang berekspresi individu dalam menentukan pasangan hidup, sekaligus menawarkan reinterpretasi terhadap tradisi melalui pendekatan seni kontemporer yang kontekstual dan relevan dengan perkembangan zaman.

In the modern era, the practice of forced arranged marriage should no longer be upheld, particularly within the institution of marriage that emphasizes individual rights and personal choice. Mappasiala, a traditional form of arranged marriage still found in parts of Sulawesi, becomes the central focus of this work, which is rooted in the author’s personal experience—specifically, the story of her mother who refused an arranged marriage and chose her own partner, a decision considered a violation of the cultural value of siri’ in Bugis society. Through a series titled “Portrait of a Couple: A Reinterpretation of the Mappasiala Tradition in Cubist-Style Mixed Media Works”, the author presents a total of eight mixed media artworks in the Cubist style, aiming to create a reflective dialogue on the importance of personal space and freedom of expression in choosing a life partner. At the same time, the work offers a reinterpretation of tradition through a contemporary artistic approach that is contextual and relevant to the spirit of the times.
