Abstract

Penataan artistik merupakan salah satu unsur penting dalam pertunjukan
teater karena berfungsi mendukung suasana dramatik, memperkuat makna, dan
menyampaikan pesan kepada penonton melalui bahasa visual. Proposal ini
membahas perencanaan penataan artistik dalam pementasan naskah Pelacur dan
Sang Presiden karya Ratna Sarumpaet, sebuah naskah yang sarat kritik sosial
terhadap kekerasan struktural, ketimpangan gender, dan relasi kuasa antara rakyat
dan negara.
Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang konsep penataan artistik dengan
pendekatan realis-sugestif, yang memadukan unsur realisme sebagai representasi
konkret kehidupan tokoh dengan elemen visual yang menyugesti makna sosial
secara halus dan emosional. Pendekatan ini tidak menampilkan simbol secara
eksplisit, melainkan membangkitkan daya imajinasi dan interpretasi penonton
melalui suasana, tekstur, warna, dan pencahayaan yang menggugah.
Metode yang digunakan adalah metode praktik-kreasi dengan pendekatan
kualitatif dan metode artistik, mengacu pada teori Badingkut karya Herry Dim,
yang menekankan pentingnya unsur badan, diri, ingatan, dan tubuh dalam proses
penciptaan artistik. Melalui observasi sosial, eksplorasi visual, dan refleksi kreatif,
penataan artistik dirancang tidak hanya untuk memperkuat estetika pertunjukan,
tetapi juga menghidupkan kesadaran sosial dan empati melalui ruang visual yang
menyentuh dan menyarankan perlawanan terhadap ketidakadilan.

Artistic design is one of the essential elements in theatrical performance,
functioning to support the dramatic atmosphere, enhance meaning, and convey
messages to the audience through visual language. This proposal discusses the
planning of artistic design for the staging of Pelacur dan Sang Presiden (The
Whore and the President) by Ratna Sarumpaet, a script rich in social criticism of
structural violence, gender inequality, and the power relations between the people
and the state.
This research aims to develop an artistic design concept using a
realist- suggestive approach, combining realism as a concrete representation of
the characters’ lives with visual elements that subtly suggest social meanings and
evoke emotional responses. This approach does not rely on explicit symbolism,
but instead stimulates the audience’s imagination and interpretation through
atmosphere, texture, color, and evocative lighting.
The methodology used is a practice-based creation method with a
qualitative and artistic apprach, referring to the Badingkut theory by Herry Dim,
which emphasizes the importance of the body, self, memory, and corporeality in
the artistic creation process.Through social observation, visual exploration, and
creative reflection, the artistic design is crafted not only to enhance the aesthetic
of the performance but also to evoke social awareness and empathy through a
visual space that is emotionally resonant and suggestive of resistance to injustice.
