Disabilitas intelektual adalah suatu disfungsi atau keterbatasan baik secara
intelektual maupun perilaku adaptif yang dapat diukur atau dilihat yang
menimbulkan berkurangnya kapasitas untuk beraksi dalam cara tertentu. yang
sering terjadi di masyarakat Indonesia, dipengaruhi oleh kelainan genetik yang
bersifat kausatif, infeksi, trauma, komplikasi, prematuritas dan berbagai paparan
lingkungan dan bahan kimia. Isu ini menjadi latar belakang utama dalam penciptaan
film fiksi “Dudung dan Maman Just Being a Man”, yang mengangkat tema
persahabatan dengan pendekatan realisme. Berfokus pada eksplorasi teknik
penguatan karakter disabilitas intelektual melalui elemen komedi dalam konteks
budaya lokal. Ide ini memiliki daya tarik unik karena menggabungkan realitas
kehidupan sosial lansia dengan menciptakan pengalaman emosional yang
mendalam bagi penonton. Permasalahan yang diselesaikan, lebih terfokus
bagaimana penguatan karakter disabilitas intelektual dapat menyampaikan pesan
yang efektif dengan pendekatan realisme. Metode penelitian menggunakan teknik
kualitatif, mencakup observasi kehidupan lansia di panti sosial, wawancara dengan
para penghuni dan staf panti, serta kajian pustaka terhadap literatur dan film-film
sejenis. Metode penciptaan Practice Led Research yang terdiri dari tiga tahapan
kerja: pra-produksi (riset dan pengembangan konsep), produksi (pengarahan aktor
dan sinematografi natural), serta pasca-produksi (penyuntingan adegan dengan
fokus emosi). Film ini akan menghadirkan penguatan karakter disabilitas
intelektual dengan pendekatan realisme yang memperkuat kedekatan cerita dengan
realitas sosial. Kombinasi tema sosial, budaya lokal, serta humor ringan, diharapkan
dapat meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap kesejahteraan lansia serta
menciptakan pengalaman menonton yang menyentuh dan menghibur.

Intellectual disability is a dysfunction or limitation, both intellectually and in
adaptive behavior, which can be measured or observed, leading to a reduced
capacity to act in a certain way. This condition, often present in Indonesian society,
is influenced by genetic disorders, infections, trauma, complications, prematurity,
and various environmental exposures to chemicals. This issue serves as the primary
background for the creation of the fictional film "Dudung and Maman Just Being a
Man", which explores the theme of friendship with a realist approach. The film
focuses on strengthening the portrayal of intellectual disability through comedic
elements within a local cultural context. This concept has unique appeal as it
combines the realities of social life for the elderly, creating a deeply emotional
experience for the audience. The problem addressed in this work is focused on how
to effectively communicate the message of intellectual disability character
development using a realist approach. The research method uses qualitative
techniques, including observation of elderly life in a social care facility, interviews
with residents and staff, and a literature review of related works and films. The
creation process is Practice Led Research divided into three stages of works: preproduction
(research and concept development), production (directing actors and
natural cinematography), and post-production (editing scenes with an emphasis on
emotion). This film aims to present the strengthening of intellectual disability
characters through a realist approach, enhancing the connection between the story
and social realities. The combination of social themes, local culture, and light
humor is expected to raise public awareness of the welfare of the elderly while
creating a viewing experience that is both touching and entertaining.
